IEHA is soliciting bids for office management services
Greetings IEHA Members,

Last week the board held our winter retreat, during this event we discussed many items including speaker topics, upcoming events and conferences, elections, legislation, and the future of IEHA. The board would like to move forward with holding elections this year. If you are interested in serving, please run for one of the many offices. I have served on several boards in my life, and I have to say, I have not had one as enjoyable as IEHA. While it has been a privilege to serve over the past few years, it is time I become past president and Dave gets a much-deserved break. If you have any questions about serving, please reach out to myself or any board member.

For those of you that have not heard the news, Paul Chase, IEHA’s office manager, will be retiring after June 30. He has spent many years dedicated to Public Health and IEHA. This is much deserved, and I wish him the best of luck and good health as he spends time with his family. The board is searching for a new office manager who will take over starting July 1. The RFP has been posted and I expect the board will select our candidate at the end of March. The new office will have the opportunity to spend several months working with Paul to ensure a smooth transition. Thank you for all your help and assistance over the past few years, Paul!

The Spring Virtual Conference is here!  We have a great speaker lineup, and I am excited to listen to all the different topics. We are still moving forward with two in-person conferences for 2022. South chapter conference will be held in Marion in September (dates to be arranged). The Annual Educational Conference will be returning to Starved Rock Lodge, November 7th & 8th. Book your room now - we know they fill up fast!

Many of you are familiar with the proposed farmers market bill (SB3838) that is currently in the Illinois Senate. Members from IEHA, NIPHC, SIPHC, IALEHA, IAPHA took part in negotiations with the Illinois Stewardship Alliance, Farmers Market Association, and Illinois Farm Bureau. Our goal was to ensure food safety measures were observed in the legislation, and I truly believe we accomplished our goals. While there are parts of this bill we may not like, the difference between the bill submitted and the amendment is night and day. Additionally, the Home-to-Market act (Cottage Food) work group is currently working on guidance. The goal is to release this information in the next few months. I will cover both topics at the Spring Virtual Conference, Southern Chapter Conference, and Annual Education Conference. I understand cottage food is confusing
. The best advice I can give is when evaluating products for approval, look at the ingredients and compare to the unapproved product list. Additionally, when in doubt, the product needs to be kept at 41F or below.
